Sanbongi is located south of Furukawa (about 5km on route 4). The area that is called Sanbongi is quite big, but the actual town isn’t. Sanboni is a rural area and you’ll find many rice-fields and agriculture there. Sanbongi is a famous place for sunflower-watching in August. There is a huge field with sunflowers located here:

 

 

If you are in for real nature you should go to the southern mountains, but be aware that some people have spotted bears in this area. I always went there do some work out on my bike but haven’t spotted any wild animals at all.
